As we approach the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we have cause for both celebration and motivation. We celebrate the impressive development of over six decades of human rights standards, laws and institutions that have improved the lives of millions around the world. Yet, we still live in a world where these rights are being violated on a daily basis.
Recently Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Chair of the Elders, announced the launch of the "Every Human Rights" campaign, calling upon citizens everywhere to join together to protect and defend the rights of each other by upholding the goals of the Universal Declaration in their daily lives and to hold their governments accountable for the same. In alignment with these goals, the creators of Circle Up Now have developed a global art and human rights experience that will unite, inspire and motivate individuals on every continent to stand up and celebrate their rights, as well as commit themselves to defending the rights of those who cannot. This summer, utilizing the unique experience of human aerial artwork, where thousands of people come together to form an image that can only be seen and photographed from the sky, two teams will produce a series of live global events and chronicle the experience to benefit the human rights movement and the organizations that fight for it on a daily basis. ==================================== THE CIRCLE UP FOR HUMAN RIGHTS WORLD TOUR 2008 Through a series of marquee events in partnership with high-profile, international visual artists, Circle Up Now will catalyze a viral expression of solidarity through live events and an online social networking community on behalf of the Human Rights movement. This year's Aerial Art events will launch on the lawns of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on June 29th and continue throughout the world up until December 10th, 2008. Our Aerial Art Circles will represent a standard forum for non-confrontational declaration with which to take an ongoing stand for those who cannot take a stand for themselves. These events are designed to inspire change from the top down but empower people from the bottom up. They will produce images of light and hope to counter the dark realities of human rights violations that are taking place every day. Group Tags
